VRC Oaks runner-up Thunder Lady and Gust Of Wind make up Sargent's group 1 team at Randwick on Saturday and he takes some confidence to the track.

"I have won quite a few different Oaks but not in Sydney," Sargent said. "I have been here 18 months and this is the race I thought I had the chance of winning during this carnival.

"We have established the stable at Randwick now but the group 1 is something that is missing and we hope we can get and we have the right fillies to do it."

Thunder Lady is second pick in the betting after returning to her strong spring form last start in the Vinery Stud Stakes when she ran into third behind Fenway, which scratched on Friday because of lameness in the near fore hoof.

Her form profile shows remarkable similarities to the spring, when she won the Wakeful Stakes before being runner-up in VRC Oaks.

"She is one of fillies that finds her form once she get to the 2000 metres. I was bit worried with her first couple of runs because I thought she would have done a bit more," Sargent said.

"I went to Rosehill thinking she had to show something and she did and I have been very happy with her since.

"She is a stayer that will have a turn of foot at the end of the 2400m and has a bit of class."

Zac Purton takes over on Thunder Lady from Tye Angland, who will ride Gust Of Wind. Purton will become the 11th different jockey to ride the Mastercraftsman filly in 12 runs.

"The owner is Hong Kong-based and was very keen to get Zac to ride her and when you can get him there isn't too many other you would want in the world. She is one of those horse that is fairly easy to ride, so it hasn't worried us too much using different jockeys," Sargent said.

"She will settle and come into the race at the right time and I think she is going to be very hard to beat."

In contrast Gust Of Wind gets to the Oaks at just her fifth start and Sargent acknowledges that she has been on "a steep learning curve" this preparation.

She was responsible for one of the more stunning wins this year in her maiden over 1400m at Scone in February. Tailed off, Gust Of Wind was a dozen lengths off the back of the field under hard riding at the 800m and still six off them at turn. She finally tacked on at the 250m and flew to win.

"She went there because that was her level at time, but as she has stepped in distance, it has been obvious she is a stayer. I have no doubt that she will run the 2400m, she could be looking for two miles," Sargent said.

Gust Of Wind won at Hawkesbury over a mile after Scone before winding up her preparation in Monday's Adrian Knox Stakes, where she found the line strongly also.

"It was her biggest test and she didn't really handle the conditions on Monday but you saw how strong she was in the final 200m," Sargent said. "She is just one of those fillies that gets stronger the further they go."

Meanwhile Gai Waterhouse has reported to stewards that Oaks contender Adrift had swelling in her off-hind leg and she would be inspected by Racing NSW vet Craig Suann before scratching time on Saturday.
