The event attracted Dubbo residents who had previously never visited the attraction along with those who had travelled hundreds of kilometres to enjoy the city's long-weekend offerings.
"It's an annual event, this is my fifth and we've just seen it grow over the years as more people become aware of the Gaol and the exhibitions and activities we have here," Old Dubbo Gaol tours and events officer Ruaan Van Der Wath said.
Mr Van Der Wath said "excellent" weather had no doubt helped attract a decent crowd to his year's event. It coincided with the start of the Easter school holidays, he said, which were traditionally the Gaol's busiest time of the year.
Fun, interactive theatrical performances on the day and an appearance by the Easter Bunny to hand out chocolate eggs were a highlight for many, while much smaller bunnies on display in the petting area delighted visitors of all ages.
One exhibition that was definitely of the 'look but don't touch' variety, however, was Camilla the taipan, demonstrated by Dubbo-based reptile handler Paul Kirk in his Kirk's Reptiles Show.
"I wouldn't necessarily describe her as friendly, technically she's the third most venomous snake in the world after the fierce snake and brown snake," he said.
"I've had her for three-and-a-half years, since she was a baby. I gave her a nice rat for Easter."
