ZIPPING Sonia entered yesterday's $1010 Safe Zone Pest Control Stakes (605m) and she didn't disappoint with a convincing victory.
The Trevor Jones-trained bitch jumped extremely well from box one at Dawson Park and immediately got to the lead.
Despite some pressure from the fast finishing duo of Beatrice Mel ($9.00) and Alka Casey ($2.50), Zipping Sonia ($2.20) went on to record a one-and-a-half length win.
It continues an outstanding run of recent form for Jones' runner, with three wins now from eight starts.
Earlier in the afternoon, Firebee capitalised on recent consistent showings to record a win in the Bet To Win Tips Stakes (516m).
Firebee entered yesterday's race with six placings from 10 professional starts and went on to record win number three in what appears to be a promising career.
Trained by members of the Hudson family, Firebee ($4.40) enjoyed a steady start while pre-race favourite Kid Dynamite ($2.20) built an imposing lead early.
But at the midway point in the race Firbee got to the lead and from there she didn't look back, winning by half-a-length from Kid Dynamite while Zipping Grace ($8.20) was a further two lengths back in third.
"She did it really well," Lorraine Hudson said, impressed by her recent form.
"She got a bit of a bashing last start but ran second before that."
Hudson admitted she was extremely pleased by the way her bitch finished the race, with her consistent pace proof to the trainer that she can run further distances and compete in better company.
"I think she'll run more than 500," she said.
"I'd like to see her go to at least Richmond."
Wellington trainer Ron Steel continued his winning streak at Dawson Park yesterday, taking out the 3 Weeks Till Carnival Stakes (400m) with Betsie Cargo.
It was a dominant and routine victory for Betsie Cargo ($3.10) as she got immediately to the lead and left the rest of the field in her wake.
Passing the post in the time of 28.2 seconds, Betsie Cargo got home ahead of Dimitr ($8.20) and Wallah Princess ($48.60).
Young trainer Geoffrey Sheather rounded out the meeting with wins through Kalimba Light and Chasing Amber.
