The female human cannonball and the star of Xtreme Korruption, a highlight of this year's Sydney Royal Easter Show, broke her arm in a freak accident on Tuesday.
During her performance, Jennifer Schneider propels her body 20 metres into the air, before landing in a net 40 metres away at speeds of up to 70 kilometres per hour.
It was understood that she broke her arm in two places practising this manoeuvre during rehearsals in the countdown to the show's opening. She was to have performed the act with her husband on Wednesday during a media preview.
Ms Schneider is one of only 10 human cannonballs in the world.
In true showbiz spirit, Ms Schneider will detonate the cannonball for her husband instead during the preview.
Because of the accident, she will not be able to perform when the 193rd show opens on Thursday because she will be in hospital.
The Royal Agricultural Society of NSW, the organisers of the Royal Easter show, said it was currently looking for a replacement for Ms Schneider.
"The show must go on," a spokesperson insisted.
Xtreme Korruption has been promoted as dare-devil antics and fast, furious action all the way from the USA.
In the Spotless Stadium, it will also feature the Showtime Freestyle MotoX Team, Team DMax Precision Driving Team and a two-minute fireworks display. The show will continue with Mr Boom and Ms Schneider's replacement every lunchtime 12pm-1pm and evening 8.10pm-9pm.
