Hoping to raise $10,000 for a wheelchair, Zumba instructor, Tracy Hanna, has received more than $9000 of funds from the Dubbo community.
The main event, Give Barnsy a reason to smile, to be held at St John’s Primary School on March 28, will see all further funds donated directly to Barnsy’s family in order to give him a better quality of life.
Tracy has been teaching the family at Dubbo Northcott for more than two years. In that time, she formed a friendship with the young man that is Daniel ‘Barnsy’ Barnes.
Barnsy was diagnosed with Angelman syndrome at birth.
His life expectancy was 10 years of age and incredibly he’s about to turn 25.
Tracy said she had asked Barnsy’s parents what he would really need for the big 2-5. They answered with an iPad.
Having easily raised those funds, Tracy decided to reach for the stars and work towards raising money to get a new wheelchair for Barnsy. “With Barnsy’s condition, he’s constantly in pain and leaning to one side,” Tracy said.
“A new chair will really help him and his family out.” Tracy, along with Erinn Louise and Melanie Egan will be holding a Zumba Disco Party for Barnsy on Saturday, March 28 from 6.30pm at St John’s Primary School.
Gentlemen, do not be deterred by the word “zumba”. With an auction planned for the evening, Tracy has been busy gathering sports memorabilia for the major prizes, many of which had been donated by local businesses.
“This evening would not be possible without the support from the Dubbo community,” she said.
With more than 20 incredible items up for grabs at the auction, the sky is really the limit for how much Barnsy and his family could be smiling at the end of the night.
Bring along the family for a night of Zumba and auctioning fun. Entry is $15.
