The Dubbo Chamber of Commerce and Industry hosts a women in business lunch every quarter, and this Thursday will feature principal and owner of Coachwell Australia, John Southwell, as guest speaker.
Toni Beatty from the chamber said "the aim of the lunch is to get business women together to network with other business women in the community to discuss local issues" and to promote "the advantages of having a woman at the head of a business".
Ms Beatty said the chamber is expecting more than 50 women to attend.
She said it's the first time the lunch has ever featured a male guest speaker.
"John is a known mentor," Ms Beatty said.
Mr Southwell said he was really looking forward to presenting his approach to personal improvement through identifying one's own personality style.
"There are a number of different personality styles. It's an ancient tool that talks about different personalities, and each of us has a style that we learn to apply early in life," he said.
"We use that as a way to be accepted, loved and to make our way in life. We get to know our style through self work. We don't always like what we find.
"What I'm proposing to do is to explain the styles and tell some stories to illustrate some of the manifestations of these different personality styles."
He said identifying personality styles can help people understand their own behaviour, as well as that of others.
"Having this awareness impacts on relationship in every aspect, in family, in business, and understanding why some people are easy to warm to and others annoy, how it impacts on business and how personalities affect productivity," he said. As for being the first man to address the lunch, Mr Southwell wasn't concerned.
The lunch starts at 12.30pm on Thursday, March 12, at the Commercial Hotel conference room. Visit www.dubbochamber.com.au for more information.
