The women all met at the Jean Colvin Cancer Centre, a Sydney hostel for rural women undergoing breast cancer treatment.
Having all experienced the trauma associated with carrying the disease, the women made the best of a bad situation and bonded together as a support group.
Christine Lord, from Gilgandra, said the Jean Colvin Cancer Centre had been "a home away from home" for the women.
"We were all in the same boat, so it made it easy for us to support each other," Mrs Lord said.
The treatment included chemotherapy and radiation, which was not easy for anyone, Mrs Lord said.
Spending up to six weeks in Sydney, Mrs Lord said not all the time was spent resting.
"We made a point to gather for a happy hour most days," she said.
"It's very important with anyone who was or is currently in the same boat as us, to keep positive."
"There is a light at the end of the tunnel."
Mrs Lord said she and the other survivors encouraged all women in the region to keep their health in mind.
"Get regular check-ups from an early age, you never know how important it could be," she said.
