When Mr Coulton spoke to the Daily Liberal at the weekend, the MP said at that he did not think the spill would take place, just three weeks after the first spill on February 9.
"I don't want to see a change," Mr Coulton said.
"We want to see stability within the government."
Mr Coulton said from where he stood, the Nationals were on the same page in terms of a second spill not being in the best interests of the country.
"People have more confidence in Tony Abbott's abilities as leader since the last spill," Mr Coulton said.
Despite the fact he does not get to vote on the issue, Mr Coulton said Mr Abbott had his full support.
Hypothetically, if Malcolm Turnbull was successful in challenging the position, Mr Coulton said he would prefer to see Mr Abbott remain as Prime Minister.
"If there was to be a change in leadership, then we (the Nationals) would see a renegotiation of the Coalition agreement," Mr Coulton said.
"The support of the Nationals can not be taken for granted."
Mr Coulton said he believed Mr Abbott had fulfilled his promise of delivering a "good government".
"It's frustrating for me because the discussion topics in Canberra have all been very central to the people there," he said.
"The focus has been taken away of what the party has actually achieved."
Mr Coulton said actions like abolishing the carbon mining tax and addressing the concerns of people entering Australia illegally by boat had been overshadowed.
"People need to remember what has been achieved, such as more money for roads and free trade agreements," he said.
Mr Coulton said suspected the storm would calm in the next week so "Tony would be able to get on with the job he was put there to do".
