The man entered the store shortly after 7pm where he produced a knife and threatened to stab the woman before ordering her to hand over cash.
It is unclear at this stage exactly how much cash was taken during Wednesday's horrifying hold-up.
The Daily Liberal understands Dubbo police are reviewing footage from the BP and surrounding service stations to help identify the man.
The service station was cordoned off by local police before detectives began canvassing the immediate area for witnesses. A police sniffer dog was brought in to help ramp up the search effort however, to date the man still remains at large.
The man, believed to be aged in his mid 30s, was wearing a blue hooded jumper with a 'Bulldogs' motif across the front and last seen by witnesses moving south along Fitzroy Street.
Wednesday's incident is just another in a long line of violent armed robberies carried out on a number of local businesses and private residences.
Earlier this month a Dubbo couple were attacked by two men baring large knives in a violent home invasion just two blocks away from the BP service station - neither event is believed to be linked.
In late December police also charged a 21-year-old Dubbo man after another armed robbery with a knife at a fast-food restaurant in Victoria Street.
Inspector Mitchell Croyston from Dubbo Police Station said violent hold-ups during busy daylight hours had come more commonplace.
"I'm not surprised about anything here anymore," he said.
BP was contacted for comment.
