Trainer-driver Bruce McKinnon found the front just after the start and with a wing on every hoof he opened up a 25-metre lead with 1200 metres to run.
McKinnon then dragged the big chestnut back to the pack coming to the bell to hold a six-metre advantage.
Down the back it appeared as though the early burn may take its toll on Koloura Gold but he had other ideas, forging clear again to score by five metres in a fast mile rate of 1:57.9.
Scots Legacy ($20.60, Nathan Hoy) enjoyed a nice trip off the fast pace and hit the line strongly to run second, narrowly ahead of Truly Miss Terious ($9.60, Jason Turnbull) which was brave after death seating.
On a night for Dubbo veterans, Garry Edwards was back in the winner's circle when Waikare Madonna ($21.70) claimed the Terry Bros Pace (2040m).
Edwards took a sit with Waikare Madonna and then popped out on the home turn to run down pacemaker and favourite Kyalla Tee Jay ($2.00, Nathan Hurst) to score by three metres.
Third placed Blue Chip Memories ($5.50, Shannon Rye) was held up at vital stages and he may have finished much closer had he got clear earlier.
Meanwhile, We Own The Night ($2.10) ended a difficult week for Bathurst reinswoman Angela Hedges when he took out the Parkes Leagues Club Competitive Stakes (1660m).
Angela was driving stable favourite Major Gambler in a race at Bathurst on Sunday when his leg snapped and he had to be destroyed.
But Hedges bounced back with a perfect front-running drive.
She slipped the pacer into another gear at the top of the lane and We Own The Night put more than 12 metres between himself and runner up, Ponover ($10.60, Jason Turnbull) which could do nothing but chase after camping on the winner throughout.
What I Mean To Say ($10.30, Steve Dowton) raced without cover and his run was full of merit in running third considering the winning mile rate was 1 .58.5.
