Dubbo District Cricket Association president Michael Davis is delighted to see play return to the city's premier cricket ground today with Whitney Cup action on again at No. 1 Oval.
The entire square at No. 1 was excavated last November and re-laid by council after an alleged poisoning attack on the playing surface.
No representative match or Whitney or Pinnington Cup match has been played there at all this season but after last night's Megahit match between Newtown and the Journeymen was played, first grade returns to the pitch today before this week's Under-13s and 14s Junior State Challenge carnival.
"It's really good and it's in time for the junior carnival this week as well as local cricket and the night cricket," Davis said.
"It was going to be ready a week earlier but in all fairness we had some unscheduled rain last week so everyone decided to give it an extra week and now it's good to go."
The outfield has also enjoyed the break with it in what Davis described as "superb condition" while the pitch itself looks to have a tinge of green, which will please bowlers from RSL-Colts and South Dubbo, the two sides meeting there today.
Colts come into the match in red-hot form after four successive wins while Souths fell to Macquarie last week after their big win over Newtown before Christmas.
The men in red will be wary of Souths, who are capable of playing some of the best cricket in the competition when the likes of Tim Berry, Matt Finlay and Asher Robins fire.
Much of Colts success has come through their consistent bowling but they will be without Wes Giddings today, who has combined well with fellow spinner Greg Buckley to tie down opposition batsmen.
Today's Whitney Cup matches all start at 1pm.
