Ms McNicol was awarded Dubbo Hospital 2014 Nurse of the Year and will represent local nurses and patients on the board, which supports the work of the national body in the areas of nurse registration, accreditation, standards and codes, complaints and investigations.
The endorsed enrolled nurse only started her training seven years ago and has managed to achieve great things in that time.
Ms McNicol was applauded for her facilitation of the Essentials of Care program in the general medical ward (G ward) at Dubbo Hospital, for which she was awarded the Judges Award at the Health District's 2014 Health Awards Expo.
She has been invited to talk about the success of the program under her leadership at various local and state forums.
Ms McNicol said she was "really excited, but overwhelmed" about the appointment and was looking forward to the opportunity to provide input and insight from the perspective of an endorsed enrolled nurse.
"Being appointed to the board is very prestigious and I never thought it would happen to me. I'm just here to do my nursing," she said.
"I am very excited about being able to represent rural nursing, as having the chance to provide contribution from rural and remote areas of NSW will allow me to present feedback on the unique differences between metropolitan and rural nursing."
"The experience I have gained from the success of the Essentials of Care program will be very beneficial in my role on the NSW Nursing and Midwifery Board.
"To be able to offer my skills acquired from my journey in nursing so far to the board will give a voice to enrolled nurses across NSW. It's important to be heard and vital to feel satisfaction that you can make a difference."
