AN UNBEKNOWNST Wagga millionaire is yet to cash in on the largest unclaimed prize in NSW.
A $2.7 million winning lottery ticket remains unclaimed more than a week since it was drawn.
The winning, unregistered ticket for the $30 million Megadraw, purchased from Hunters Newsagency, won $2.7 million, as one of 11 division one winning entries on Saturday, January 3.
The winner has 1187 days left to claim the newsagency’s highest winning ticket before the money is forfeited to the state government.
Michael White has been employed at Hunters for 24 years – 14 years under current owners, Scott and Sharlene Woodhouse, and the 10 years prior under previous ownership.
“Around Christmas time and the holiday period, people may be away on holidays,” Mr White said of the mystery millionaire.
“It could have been put in a Christmas card and still be sitting under the tree.
“It’s the biggest (win) I’ve ever seen. I’m amazed they’ve left it this long.
“I know I would’ve claimed it.”
NSW Lotteries spokeswoman Elissa Lewis said the division one winning entry purchased in Wagga was the largest unclaimed prize in NSW.
“Historically there have been a number of big prizes that have taken some time for their owners to hand them in and claim their prize,” she said.
“In NSW, in recent years, one winner took two weeks to claim a lucky lotteries jackpot.
“NSW Lotteries advises anyone who purchased an entry into the Megadraw in Wagga to check their entry as soon as possible.
“If they think they are holding the winning ticket, keep it in a safe place and contact NSW Lotteries to start the prize claim process.”
Winners have six years to claim a lottery prize from NSW Lotteries before the money is returned to the state government.
