Crowds gathered in both Narromine and Trangie to watch the pigeons be released and fly home.
The grand finale of the Jane McGrath Foundation events schedule, the Pigeon Race attracts a great crowd, always falling on the same day as Jane McGrath Day at the Sydney Cricket Test.
Some are plainly interested in the race and supporting a great cause and some punters have more of a vested interest having "bought" the pigeons at the calcutta on Monday night.
The "Ferrari Syndicate" comprising of six locals took out first place this year and in true community spirit donated their $800 worth of winnings back into the worthy cause.
Syndicate spokesperson, Graham Tink was thrilled their pigeon came first.
"Butch (Neville Owen) used to race them, he looked at the pigeons and told us what ones he was choosing. It didn't mean much to us," Mr Tink smiled.
The Syndicate bought the pigeons to "keep the race interesting" and because it is such a worthy cause.
"It's a wonderful, wonderful cause and a very good event," Mr Tink said.
"Every one in Narromine and Trangie support it very well."
The pigeons are named after Channel Nine commentators and Mark Nicholas won this year.
Mr Tink said he wasn't a fan of Mark Nicholas before today but he'd better start supporting him now.
"We've got to support him for the rest of the year now," self-confessed cricket head, Mr Tink said.
Event organiser Shane Dolton was thrilled with the event and very pleased the syndicate donated their money back into the cause.
"We're just a little bit under $15,000. Final figures will come out next week," he said.
