The mother of one of the girls said the teenagers each took the party drug before heading to a social function west of Nyngan last weekend.

While swimming at a friend's house the girls began to feel unwell.

"My daughter got out of the pool and just collapsed- they raced her to the hospital," the mother said.

"If it wasn't for the efforts of the medical staff at the small hospital we would have lost her."

The 17-year-old's two other friends from Orange also collapsed and were taken to hospital.

Nguuamambiny Indigenous Corporation chief executive officer Lynn Field said Meow Meow was a modified version of ice.

"It's called Meow Meow because if you can get girls to take it it makes them sexually compliant," Ms Field said. "It's like a date rape drug but girls willingly take it."

Meow Meow, Pussy Power, M-Cat or mephedrone as it is officially known, is a relatively new drug and the Australian Drug Foundation (ADF) said there was a lack of information surround its use in Australia and its effects.

The ADF reports users have felt a range of immediate effects from an intense connection with music to talkativeness, while long term it can lead to memory loss and insomnia.
