Nau has been an integral part of the Roos success in recent years and his performances as a regular at representative level meant he couldn't say no to this opportunity, according to Board.
"He's been a terrific member of the club, he's a talented footballer and a good man," he said.
"It's good for him, he's been a good influence on country rugby, he wants to play Shute Shield and you can't do that from here so I wish him all the best.
Nau led from the front on the field, with his title-sealing try in the final stages of this year's Blowes Clothing Cup grand final testament to that, but Board said there is a lot more than those efforts which will be missed by the Roos.
"At junior training he was there all the time, he's been terrific for the club and he'll be hard to replace but you go through eras and we'll do that again," he said.
"It took us three years to get to this season and we've got a good supply of rugby players here so hopefully all the young kids want to go and play Colts and then first grade."
Randwick have also shown an interest in Roos star Filisone Pauta but it is unclear at this stage whether he will follow Nau to Sydney.
Pauta's departure would be another huge loss for the club with the news barnstorming prop Max Ma'a Nelson has signed with Group 10 rugby league side Orange Hawks while Brad Pugh is currently playing rugby in England and at this stage is no certainty to return for the 2015 Blowes Clothing Cup season.
This all follows the news that premiership winning coach Paul Hennock will not be at the helm next season but Board did confirm an official announcement on a new coach should be made shortly.
"We really don't know who we'll have playing until pre-season starts," said Board.
"Big Max has decided to go to Orange so we wish him all the best as well."
The Kangaroos held their AGM last Friday night and Board said there were no major changes to the committee, something he was pleased with.
Lee Toohey and Simon Hegarty have both stepped up to take positions on the board while Pugh and Ted Bates have stood down and Board said continuity behind the scenes was crucial for success.
