Dubbo's decision to use the Brewery Shield as a breeding ground for future representative stars has paid immediate dividends with a six-wicket mauling of Gilgandra on Sunday.
The Brewery Shield has often been used for up-and-coming players but under a new regime the side will predominately feature under-19s players, with one or two older players to provide the experience.
Against Gilgandra, arguably the strongest side in the competition behind Dubbo, it was all one-way traffic as a dominant bowling performance seeing the home side bowled out for just 69 before Dubbo reached the total for the loss of just four wickets to record their second victory of the season.
CYMS' Stuart Naden took 4-5 as he destroyed the lower order after the early pressure created by the likes of Angus Cusack, Blake Watmore, Nick Cushan and Jack Busch.
Mick Davis, usually the team's manager, had to step in as captain in the absence of injured skipper Matt Ellis, who still attended the match to provide support for the young side.
"It's the under-19 concept and a look to the future so we mould the next generation of rep players," Davis said.
Cusack was hugely impressive as he finished with 0-6 from six overs, while Watmore (2-8), Busch (2-19) and in particular Naden did the brunt of the damage.
Davis was full of praise for all the bowlers but in particular Cusack.
"There were some doubters wondering if we had enough young kids but we've got a squad of about 25 and they can all play, it's really refreshing. They just need some quality leadership and Matt (Ellis) will give us that and he still gave it to us as manager."
"He was the best bowler on the day and he was the only one who didn't get a wicket, they just didn't have an answer to him and the six runs that came off him were just through him trying different things," he said.
"He was just on the stop and unplayable.
"And Stuart bowled really well and the track was turning, it was the perfect pitch for him. There was a long boundary against the wind if the batsmen wanted to take him on but none of them could anyway, the ball hardly hit the bat."
Chasing a small total Dubbo suffered a few hiccups against the likes of Jon Kilby but Colts youngster Michael Ying Sing led the way and finished unbeaten on 48 as the total was reached in the 19th over.
"It wasn't the prettiest of innings, he had quite a tussle with Jon Kilby but he was up to it. There was a bit of chirp so it was good to see Michael stand up and he then hit him to all parts and at one stage hit five fours in a row," Davis said.
