ARIAS: Last night was the night of nights for the Australian Music Industry as the annual ARIAs took place. It was all about the ARIAs last night as hip young, and not so young, things from the music industry celebrated 2014 in Sydney. Chet Faker and Sia were the big winners. REALITY TELEVISION: It's hard to believe that the venerable reality television pioneer is still creaking along after thirteen years, but on Wednesday night Big Brothercrowned its eleventh winner. After 80 days trapped in a fake house on the Gold Coast, the winner of Big Brother 2014 has been decided: model-handsome 26-year-old Sydney-via-Queensland boy Ryan Ginns. Read more here.
CELEBRITY: Lawyers for high-profile Sydney paparazzo Jamie Fawcett issued a letter on Tuesday morning demanding visiting American pop star Katy Perry remove posts from her Twitter feed that the photographer claims are defamatory. Read more here.
CELEBRITY: Lady Gaga has credited Sir Elton John with saving her when she was struggling with drink and drugs. The Bad Romance hitmaker, who is godmother to the Bennie and the Jets star's two sons, realised she needed help after she passed out drunk on the lawn at her boyfriend Taylor Kinney's brother's wedding. CELEBRITY: Magwatch is always happy when somebody has a baby. It's not our loins being stretched to buggery and a weak pelvic floor. This week OK! reveals that Ashton Kutcher's offspring Wyatt is "very cute". This comes from Kutcher's former wife Demi Moore's daughter Rumer Willis, who "saw photos of her". Read more here.

BOXING: The Nyngan shed boxing club held its annual Fight Night on November 8. The old outside picture theatre right in the middle of town turned out to be the perfect venue for an outside boxing tournament. The weather was absolutely brilliant and the large vocal crowd seemed to be having a ball. Read more here.
TRIATHLONS: The Make A Wish Foundation has benefited to the tune of $12,300 after the inaugural EMS Tri For Charity event held at Dubbo on Saturday. A total of 47 teams of three competitors lined up on the day, taking part in the 550m swim, 18km ride and 9km run, with the money being used by the foundation to arrange experiences for children with life-threatening medical conditions. BOWLS: The Narromine Bowling Club hosted their annual Triples Tournament earlier this month. The Bowling Club hosted teams from around the region. Club president, Kevin Rider, said there were originally 14 teams but one team dropped out early on the Saturday morning. Read more here.
CRICKET: Western Zone batsman Jordan Moran will have more reason than most to fire at this weekend's NSW Country Championships southern pool carnival in Griffith, with the Dubbo-based wicketkeeper-batsman still reeling from the horrific injury suffered by good friend Phil Hughes on Tuesday. BOWLS: Congratulations to Wayne Arandale, Mary Millar, Darrell Anderson and Don Smith who were made life members at the annual general meeting of the Nyngan bowling club on Sunday. These four members are very worthy of the honour bestowed upon them. The time and voluntary work they have done and are still doing for the club is to be commended. Read more here.
RUGBY LEAGUE: Dubbo will play host to one of the biggest rugby league carnivals in Australia next year with the announcement the 2015 NSW Aboriginal Rugby League Knockout will be played here next October. After three successive tournaments at Raymond Terrace the action will come to Caltex Park after the Walgett Aboriginal Connection (WAC) won this year's event and were awarded hosting rights. 8.22: The nation have all stopped in shock after South Australian's Phillip Hughes' cricketing injury on Tuesday.
Many people have sent the cricketer well wishes through social media and other outlets. We have put together a message wall for the cricketer so you can show your support. Click on the links below to read about the incident and send him a message:
The incident has stimulated conversation about the safety of cricketers. Local cricket players are encouraged to helmet up for the summer sport.
DUBBO cricket players have been urged to put their health and safety first when on the pitch, after the tragic incident which landed South Australian cricketer Phillip Hughes in hospital. Dubbo Junior Cricket Association president Lindsay Wood said he was pleased with the current match regulations in place, which required all batsmen under the age of 16 to wear a helmet. YEOVAL-born Victoria quick Chris Tremain says he can't imagine how New South Wales paceman Sean Abbott feels following the sickening injury to South Australian opening batsman Phil Hughes. Abbott sent down the bouncer that careered into the side of Hughes' head during the current round of Sheffield Shield action at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Read more here.

Keeper Carolene Magner said Kibibi was getting used to the attention from visitors and had become a regular at the daily hippo keeper talk.
Kibibi means 'little lady' in Swahili, but the calf has already doubled in size since her birth.

EMERGENCY services helped free a woman who became trapped when the vehicle she was driving slammed into a tree along the Golden Highway between Dubbo and Dunedoo yesterday.
Elong Elong Rural Fire Service, police, paramedics and VRA personnel converged on the site five kilometres west of Elong Elong about 10am following reports a car had rolled over and at least one occupant was trapped.
They arrived to find the vehicle had left the road and hit a tree and immediately set about helping the driver out of the vehicle.
The woman suffered serious facial injuries and was conveyed by an ambulance rescue helicopter to Orange Health Service.

ASSAULT: Karl Sibley and his family wept during a final embrace in Orange District Court on Wednesday after Sibley was sentenced to two years in jail, with a non-parole period of 12 months, for an assault on Tom Brown in January, which left the victim with critical head injuries.
JESSICA SMALL CASE: Just $100,000 will be offered as a reward for information about Jessica Small’s abduction and murder – despite the state’s deputy coroner recommending at least five times that amount be made available.
GAY MARRIAGE DEBATE: Farrer MP Sussan Ley has responded cautiously to Albury Council’s support for same-sex marriage, saying she was waiting for legislation to come before Parliament before spelling out her views on the issue.
RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS: When Debra Tropea's little boy Cruz became severely dehydrated during a traffic jam on Friday, she never expected the kindness of even one person - let alone 30,000 of them. Read more about the search for the kind-hearted truckie.

FARMING ACCIDENT: A cattle station worker has been flown to Brisbane after she was trapped under more than 1000 kilograms of hay bales while working on Taldora Station near Julia Creek.
DRUG ARREST: A long-time Warrnambool drug dealer who was so desperate to make money he substituted rock salt for ice has been jailed for six months.

CRIME: Police tasered a man in the bathroom of a West Dubbo house as a woman cowered in the corner with a newborn baby in her arms. Dubbo Local Court heard the man had terrified the woman, the newborn and a nine-year-old child in a Gowrie Avenue home. Neighbours called emergency services when they heard glass breaking, a man yelling and a woman screaming.
WHITE RIBBON DAY: For many men, challenging a mate when he talks about women in a demeaning or abusive way is not easy. But it needed to be done as a first step to address a culture that could sometimes accept violence against women, according to Dubbo man Jethro Geier. Mr Geier described himself as one of five "everyday Dubbo blokes" who appear on a new poster launched yesterday aimed at tackling violence against women.
BISHOP VISIT: St Joseph’s School and St Patrick’s Parish welcomed Bishop Columba to Nyngan during the first weekend in November. Bishop Columba was ordained Bishop of Wilcannia-Forbes Diocese on July 3, 2014.

DISABILITY CHALLENGES: After four years of research into the access to disability services in rural and remote NSW, the Wobbly Hub and Double Spokes (WH&DS) team presented their preliminary findings at the Western Plains Cultural Centre (WPCC) yesterday. WH&DS project manager Dr Angela Dew said the distance between people with a disability and the available services was one of the biggest challenges identified.
EDUCATION: During the past two weeks stage 5 Nyngan High School students have had the opportunity to be involved in seven skills days offered by TAFE Western. The students were engaged in hands-on activities in Children’s Services, Mining, Small Motors, Automotive, Electrotechnology, Aboriginal Culture and Express Coffee. The days were aimed at encouraging the students to broaden their career ideas and give them an insight into the industries. The students found the days very rewarding.
