ANOTHER round of Whitney Cup, another three points for Mat Skinner. The Newtown captain has arguably been the standout cricketer in this season’s competition and he continued his outstanding form on Saturday, making 93 and taking 1-12 from six overs in his side’s win over CYMS.

The man of the match effort from the all-rounder has seen him move three points clear at the top of the 2014-15 Barry Hildebrandt Medal while the weekend’s one-day action also saw seven new players poll votes for the first time.
Nick Cushan got the two points in the Newtown-CYMS game for his role in the match-winning partnership with Skinner while Dan French’s valuable 42 saw him pick up one point.
In the round’s other action the three point winners were Ben Taylor and Matt Keenan.
Taylor has not long returned to action after surgery during the off-season but he showed his worth for Rugby on Saturday as he hit 45 and took a miserly 2-16 from his eight overs against Souths.
In the lower-scoring match the other two point-getters were Souths players with Scott Tucker’s four wickets rewarded with the two and Will Wolter’s half century saw him claim one.
Keenan made 68 in a 108-run opening partnership for Colts on Saturday which set the platform for their win over Macquarie.
Tim Howarth took three wickets for Colts, including the wickets of Jason Green and Ed Haylock to get two points while Greg Buckley’s solid all-round effort on his return to Dubbo was rewarded with one point. Twenty-nine different players have now polled votes after the first four rounds but Newtown’s dominance of the competition is obvious, with three of the top four all Tigers.
