Dubbo Fireworks Inc reported it had engaged a pyrotechnics company and secured a venue for its inaugural event, the first of its kind in the city "for more than 30 years".
Dubbo Fireworks Inc chairman Peter Judd said it "takes tens of thousands of dollars" to stage a fireworks display, that the event was going ahead and it was open to further offers of sponsorship.
Earlier this year the group had announced it had formed with the intention to stage a New Year's Eve event, after community members had in previous years said Dubbo was lacking.
Bathurst, Mudgee and Orange have all had celebrations on December 31 for a number of years.
The Dubbo NYE Fireworks Party 2014 would be held at Dubbo Apex Club's Caltex Park, thanks to an in-kind contribution by Dubbo City Council, Mr Judd said.
Steve Lee from Parkes Paintball and Fireworks, provider of fireworks at the annual Dubbo Show, had been engaged, the chairman reported.
"He puts on a wonderful display," Mr Judd said.
The group had secured a number of sponsors but was happy to hear from other companies that wanted to be involved, he said.
"It takes tens of thousands of dollars to stage, thousands of dollars for insurance and that's before we even start purchasing fireworks," he said.
"We're going to have a display, but for a really nice one we need more sponsors on board."
"Dubbo has not had anything like this for more than 30 years."

The plan is for a family-oriented and alcohol-free event with entertainment, food and market stalls and then crackers at 9pm.
Mr Judd stressed glass could not be taken on to the oval to protect footballers playing on the surface in the future.
He said the planned event was the result of two years' work.
"We're very excited, (so excited) it's about to go into overdrive," he said.
"Dubbo has not had anything like this for more than 30 years."
Entry would be by gold coin donation, with the major beneficiary being Macquarie Homestay, which was "a fantastic local charity", Mr Judd said.
He invited local musicians who were interested in performing on the night to get in touch with him and said further details were on the event's website.
He acknowledged the council's helpful assistance in organising the event.
"And I'd like to mention the fantastic support of the Rotary Club of Dubbo," Mr Judd said.
Dubbo mayor Mathew Dickerson said in a release posted on the Mayor of Dubbo Facebook page the planned fireworks event would be a vibrant activity for residents and visitors to ring in the New Year.
"It is wonderful to see an enthusiastic community group willing to stage such an event which will add a new dimension to New Year activities in the city," Cr Dickerson said.
"The idea for a New Year's Eve event was sparked by the community who decided a New Year's Eve event was needed in Dubbo.
"The organising committee have worked hard to make this happen and I encourage the rest of the Dubbo community to get behind the event."
