I'VE been a fan of Michael Clarke from the beginning.

The current Aussie skipper can certainly divide opinion but I've always thought of him as one of our country's best batsman and his risk-taking and dynamic captaincy has been refreshing compared to some other captains around the world.
But with his hamstring injuries causing him trouble yet again some serious questions are being raised about his future.
The man nicknamed 'Pup' is now one of the old dogs in the team, he's 33 and has battled persistent injuries for most of his career.
He is adamant he can still be a major force in the one-day World Cup and Ashes campaign next year but it looks increasingly less likely.
It's time to swallow your pride and give up the one-day cricket Pup. You've still got things to contribute in the Test arena but with a the World Cup only 86 days away and being run for close to a hectic two months the last thing we need is the captain in and out of the side.
Now is the right time to step aside. There is still enough time for the one-day squad to settle before the World Cup.
Game 2 against South Africa was fairly terrible but George Bailey is an astute short-form captain and with the likes of Dave Warner, Aaron Finch and Steve Smith there is still plenty of batting power (I refuse to include Glenn Maxwell here).
Players like Shane Watson and Mitch Marsh both have big one-day performances in them so all of a sudden the exclusion of Clarke doesn't seem so bad.
With the World Cup on our home soil it's one we are desperate to win. Sure, Clarke's ability would help but what wouldn't help is the skipper injured in the opening game and missing the rest of the tournament and taking the focus and player's attention off the task at hand.
Clarke should spend as much time off as he needs now to fully recover. I'd love to see him in action against India in the upcoming test series but Cricket Australia has already made it clear The Ashes are the bigger focus.
Defending The Ashes is England would a huge achievement for Clarke and a real feather in his captaincy cap.
By giving up one-day cricket he would not only be giving himself the best chance of making that happen but he'd also be giving Australia the best chance of World Cup glory early next year.
