While the official opening won't be held until the end of the month, competitors from Dubbo Athletics Club gave the facility a workout an early workout and the reports were positive.
"We've got a few things to iron out as you would expect but overall the response was pretty good," Dubbo Athletics Club president David Williams said.
"One of our committee members said she saw a little boy walking along with his mother and he was thanking her for letting him be there, and that's the great thing about having a facility like this.
"Hopefully it will encourage kids to become involved in athletics and we can keep building the sport in Dubbo."
The new synthetic track surface was also a hit with competitors, and it will get a massive workout when 330 competitors converge on Dubbo for the zone championships on November 29 and 30.
"I think a large part of the excitement for the competitors is the spongy surface they get to run on now," Williams said.
"It will be interesting to see what the times are like in comparison to those hardy surfaces.
"The good thing is we have been able to get in there before zone championships and work out how different things work around the centre so hopefully by the time we have all those competitors here we'll have it all sorted out."
