Wear Orange Wednesday, is a day dedicated to the 40,000 SES volunteers who provide millions of hours of their time to help communities in times of natural disasters and emergencies.
The concept of wearing orange, the colour worn by SES volunteers, shows support to those who help with storm and flood operations and other rescue activities.
The team at Short Street Store have a close relationship with the local SES, as they have been supporting WOW for the past four years.
Last year they wore the SES uniform, and this year they were all bearing orange badges.
Short Street Store manager, Tracey Petrie said the store had always supported the SES Macquarie Region and were thankful for the great work they did.
"We've supported the SES over the years. Whether that is storm safe week or flood safe week or WOW," Ms Petrie said.
There are more than 250 SES units within the Macquarie region and while their major responsibilities are for flood and storm operations, they also provide the majority of general rescue effort in the rural parts of the state, including road accident rescue, vertical rescue and bush searches.
SES Macquarie Region, deputy controller Phil Lalor said WOW was a great opportunity for locals to support the invaluable contribution the SES made to the community.
"These volunteers leave their family and work, to help people in the worst of times," Mr Lalor said. "They're the people running in, when everyone else is running out."
