Mark Douglas Ellerman, 47, did not enter pleas when he was brought before Magistrate Andrew Eckhold on one charge of drug possession and two counts of supplying more than an indictable quantity of a prohibited drug.
Prosecution facts tendered to the court allege Ellerman, of the Bathurst suburb of Gormans Hill, was caught with 80.7g of methamphetamine on Tuesday.
A solicitor from the Legal Aid Commission said Ellerman was experiencing anxiety.
"He fears an inmate at Bathurst Correctional Centre and asks not to be sent there," the solicitor said.
Ellerman appeared agitated as he sat in the court dock.
He turned repeatedly to speak to a woman seated in the public gallery.
Corrective Services officers moved to the rear of the dock in an attempt to block his view.
Magistrate Eckhold gave the prosecution until December 10 to complete a brief of evidence.
The charges were adjourned to January 5.
There was no application for bail.
Ellerman called out "I love you" as he was led to the court cells.
