The gelding, which cost Kennedy just $1200, arrived late to snare a half-head win over his Armidale opponent.
"I thought we had it," Armidale jockey Geoff Snowden said. "Me too," owner-trainer Paul Grills said.
"We'll still go to the Gold Coast with him though. Him and Dusty (Dusty's Felt) , depending on what he does in the cup (ran third) of course," Grills added.
Apprentice Martin Haley got everything out of six-year-old Shadow Force for a fifth win in a career that has earned Kylie Kennedy and her co-owners almost $85,000 in prize money.
"We went to a Sydney tried sale and bought him for $1200 two years ago," Kennedy said.
"He was a half brother to a group winner but had no bids and we got him.
"The other day at Coonamble he knuckled over at the start and went down on his nose - missed the kick by four lengths."
She said Shadow Force might go to Warren now for a 1200m sprint on Cotton Cup day (November 9).
Also headed to Warren might be Lord Burghersh, who won the previous race for Wellington trainer Karen McCarroll.
