Maximum average temperature for October was 28.2 degrees celsius as recorded by Weatherzone - three- and-a-half degrees hotter than the long-term average.
Saturday's forecast of 38.1 degrees overtook the hottest October day on record by just over two degrees.
The former hottest day on record was 35.9 degrees on October 14, 2004.
A high of 38.1 degrees was only five degrees cooler than the highest day recorded this year on January 3.
The average minimum temperature this month is 9.5 degrees- warmer than the long-term average by .4 degrees.
Saturday produced the first 40-plus day of spring for the upper western district of NSW.
Cobar reached 40 for the first time in October since 1965.
Wilcannia and White Cliffs recorded a scorching 42 degrees, Bourke and Tibooburra reached 41.
Temperatures in Bourke, Brewarrina, Wilcannia, Cobar, White Cliffs and Tibooburra have spent at least the last six days above 35 degrees.
Cobar has not had a six-day run of 35-degree-plus heat in October since at least 1992.
Tibooburra averaged its hottest week in at least 100 years with 35 degrees average.
On Saturday night the majority of the Upper Western stayed at least five degrees above the October average.

Tibooburra and Fowlers Gap were both nine degrees warmer than October averages with 23 and 22 degrees respectively.
Yesterday was windy and possible showers and thunderstorms were forecast, but the temperature was still a muggy 35 degrees.
The warmth and winds imposed a very high fire danger rating of 23.4.
Temperatures for Tuesday and Wednesday will be 28 and 29 degrees respectively- with sunny skies and a minimal chance of rain.
Thursday will see a sunny 32 degrees with a 10 per cent chance of rain.
The final day of October on Friday will be a hot, but slightly cloudy 36-degree day with a 40 per cent chance of rain.
Possible showers will haunt Derby Day this Saturday, temperatures are forecast for 35 degrees.
And Sunday will see a mostly sunny 28 with a chance of rain.
