With their official opening last month on September 5, accommodation manager Penny Costello said she was amazed at the attendance numbers for the open day.
"We would have had more than 1000 people going through the cabins," Mrs Costello said.
"It's been great to see so many people interested in what we have out here."
Mrs Costello said she thought it was important for people to realise the accommodation could be utilised by everyone, not just tourists from out of town.
"We've had a lot of positive interest from the day," she said.
With the temperatures soaring during the weekend, Mrs Costello said the visitors were certainly getting a taste of the airconditioning available in each cabin.
The Savannah Cabins include 14 two bedroom, two bathroom self-contained units, as well as one specially designed for visitors with a disability.
Mrs Costello said the starting price for a night in a cabin was $279.
The Savannah Cabins project was the final component of the zoo's three-tiered approach to providing visitors with memorable overnight experiences at the zoo.
The $4 million Savannah Cabin Project included $250,000 worth of funding from the Australian government under the Tourism Industry Regional Development Fund program and the NSW government's Regional Visitor Economy Fund.
The project is expected to assist with doubling overnight visitors by 2020.
