DUBBO mayor Mathew Dickerson has urged the sporting fans of Dubbo to flock to Dubbo Apex Club's Caltex Park tomorrow night as National Rugby Championship (NRC) action comes to Dubbo.
The NSW Country Eagles soar into town this weekend for a vital clash against the Perth Spirit, with Dickerson admitting it is a terrific opportunity to see top flight rugby from the comfort of a grandstand seat in a premier regional facility.
"The National Rugby Championship (NRC) is a national domestic competition which gives elite Super 15 and fringe Wallaby players the opportunity to play competitively throughout the international season as well as providing a pathway for Australia's best emerging talent," he said.
"This weekend is the final round of the regular season. The Eagles sit second on the competition ladder and the Spirit are fourth so both teams will be playing for positions in the semi-finals.
Dickerson said the NRC is incredibly important to the Australian Rugby Union and Dubbo needs to support such events.
"Hosting such an important match gives our city a chance to show once again that Dubbo loves sport and fans here will come out and watch high quality matches," he said.
"The Country Eagles boast a strong line-up of players with international and Super Rugby experience including Waratahs Stephen Hoiles and Brendan McKibbin as well as players bound for a strong future such as winger Andrew Kellaway who is the competition's leading try scorer so there is bound to be plenty of quality rugby being played.
"The evening program also provides a great opportunity to enjoy a seat in the grandstand, watch the match under lights and still be home in time to see the telecast of the Wallabies match."
The match program includes a clash between the Dubbo Kangaroos and the Dubbo Rhinos starting at 4pm with the NSW Country Eagles taking on the Perth Spirit at 6pm.
Tickets start at $15 and are available from www.nswcountryeagles.com or at the gate.
