In two short years, students from St John's College have gone from not knowing a word of French to performing an award-winning short film entirely in French.

Year 10 students Chloe Zell, Leanna Mills, Jasmine Bansal, Amber Benson, Reuben Grant, Dyan Jeresano, Abbey Sissian and Senuri Perera claimed first prize in the Alliance Francaise Competition.
They performed a four-minute short film on reflections, which involved a mirror that talked to people who looked into it. It was performed entirely in French.
Ms Zell also took out first prize in the magazine category, laying out an entire magazine page talking about friendship, also completely in French.
St John's French teacher Patricia Strahorn said she was extremely proud of her students.
"The film had to incorporate parts of French films so they had to learn about French cinema to put that into their movie. They had to write the script in French and Reuben wrote the music in French," Ms Strahorn said.
"It's an amazing job because these guys are beginners. They started French last year and some of them will continue studying it next year."
Year 11 French student Seamus Cahill went into the French Challenge section.
He made the finals but didn't take out the top prize.
The students will now have the opportunity to go down and collect their awards at a ceremony in Sydney on November 7.
