Jean has been a South Sydney backer since she was 17 years old and almost 80 years on, she will again don her Rabbitohs jacket this Sunday for the grand final match against the Bulldogs. 

As well as wearing green and red, Jean will continue a longstanding tradition by decorating her front fence with South Sydney memorabilia.

She is confident of her team’s victory and is tipping the Rabbitohs to win “with two or three points difference”.

“I think they’ll win, I really do,” Jean says.

“Billy Gunn has sent the champagne already.

“I keep saying ‘Lord I know you’re up there, you’ve just got to do the right thing’.” 

It seems Jean’s passion for the Bunnies is genetic, with her mum, Ivy Currey, a life member of the club.

Jean says all but one of her nine family members supported South Sydney.

“We’re all rugby cranks,” she said. “It’s in our blood, we can’t help it.”

While Jean is sure of a win this weekend, she is concerned about the possibility of the Rabbitohs running on without star hooker Isaac Luke who is facing a grand final ban for a dangerous throw.

“[It is] absolutely ridiculous,. He’s our kicker - what will we do without him?”

Jean says this weekend her home will be an “open house” to all Rabbitohs supporters – no Bulldogs fans allowed.

If the Bunnies do take the victory as Jean has predicted, she has another tradition to perform. 

“When they win we just dance and sing ‘glory glory to South Sydney, glory glory to South Sydney…’”
