Lee James Willis pleaded guilty to mid- and high-range drink-driving and driving while suspended when he appeared before Magistrate Andrew Eckhold in Dubbo Local Court.
Prosecution facts tendered to the court said the 40-year-old from Dubbo had a blood alcohol reading of 0.155 when police stopped him in Lee Street, Wellington at 9.45pm on July 18.
Willis drove again in Gobolion Street, Wellington at 11.06pm with an alcohol level of 0.123.
A solicitor from the Aboriginal Legal Service said Willis did not remember the first offence and had no relevant prior offences.
"He spent five weeks in rehabilitation," the solicitor said.
"His references speak highly of his work ethic and contribution to the community."
Magistrate Eckhold said Willis had fallen off the wagon and made a series of errors.
"Alcohol dependency is a chronic relapsing condition," the magistrate said.
"You had a relationship break-up and started drinking again.
"The plea of guilty is to your credit and you are sorry for what you did.
"The subjective material (put before the court) is outstanding. You have some of the most outstanding references I have seen."
Magistrate Eckhold said Willis had to be convicted.
"There is no way out of it," he said.
Willis was placed on an 18-month good behaviour bond and disqualified from driving for 12 months for the high-range drink-driving offence.
He was fined $400 and disqualified for six months for mid-range drink-driving.
A $200 fine and further 12-month disqualification was imposed for driving while suspended.
Magistrate Eckhold said the bond was an alternative to jail.
"It is good that you are doing something about your alcohol problem," the magistrate said.
"Do not breach the good behaviour bond."
