The two teams from year 5 and year 6 competed against 19 schools in 10 categories ranging from code breaking to poetry.
It was a highly successful day for the year 5 team who were awarded first in philosophy and science, second in English and third in art and poetry and engineering, while year 6 received third in science.
Head of the Junior School and da Vinci class teacher Julie Wilson said she was very proud of the students.
“They’ve been working with me over the last term. Each week we devoted time to a different challenge and over the course of the term they got to use more high order thinking skills and develop their teamwork skills,” Ms Wilson said.
She said the students also read A Diary of Anne Frank and visited the Anne Frank- A History for Today exhibit at the Western Plains Cultural Centre in preparation.
Despite the challenges being difficult, the students said they enjoyed what was for many their first overnight excursion, especially the good food.
The Decathlon MAGS attended was for Northern NSW but Ms Wilson said she would love to introduce a similar event at Dubbo.
