A town with a population of about 100 people, Louth's annual race meeting attracts thousands of punters from across Australia, with a vast number of them arriving in town earlier in the week to make the most of the excellent fishing and camping along the Darling River.
Seven races will feature on today's program, with the highlight being the running of the $8000 Louth Cup (2000m), where the Noel Boland-trained Husisname will be out to make history by winning the race for the fourth straight year.
The nine-year-old has become synonymous with Louth, with his three-year reign as cup winner punctuated only by a win at Warindah in early 2013.
Nyngan trainer Rodney Robb, famous for travelling his horses to all the iconic outback meetings across Australia, will have a strong hand today with one runner in six of the seven races and two rivals for Husisname in the cup.
Kody Nestor will ride four of Robb's runners, but will watch on as Mathew Cahill rides Win For Wilson in the feature. Michael Hackett will take the ride on Right Of Reply, which looks to be one of the main chances in the race.
The five-year-old proved he was up to cup standard with a third placing behind Manfred The Man in the recent Enngonia Cup, that run coming in between wins at Cunnamulla and Carinda.
The win at Carinda was particularly impressive, with the Zizou x Perinite gelding lumping 59kg as he stepped up from 1400m to 1700m.
The extra trip doesn't look like it will pose a problem for the former Victorian, which drops to 57kg and appears set to get the run of the race from barrier one.
Adding to the charm of the Louth meeting is the fact that after the races the live music will start on course and the mounting yard area will transform into a dusty dance floor, with revellers able to party the night away.
