Wayne Amor and other riders are travelling from White Cliffs to Broken Hill today with the Black Dog Rides' NSW group, along with 24 other riders who are will complete their journey at Temora on Friday. Steve Gower made the trek as far as Gilgandra.
So far they have raised almost $1000 as they made their way from Bateau Bay, up to Glen Innes, through Narrabri, Gilgandra and Warren and just as importantly, they are talking to residents about mental health issues.
"It's been a great experience so far. It rained on Saturday for the whole day but otherwise the weather has been great," Wayne said.
"The towns have been fantastic we have been talking to everyone who has time to listen to our message. The Lions Club has been a supporter of the Black Dog Rides from the start and they have been putting on meals for us.
"We have covered about 2000 kilometres so far and will cover 3400 for the whole trip. Steve and I also rode down to Bateau Bay and back from Temora so it is a big ride."
Nationally, the Black Dog Ride organisation has raised more than $270,000 this year and since it was founded by Steve Andrews in 2009, it has collected more than $1.5 million for mental health and suicide prevention services.
Another 65 riders, including Mr Andrews are currently embarking on a 32 day ride around Australia to raise funds. They departed Bateau Bay with the NSW ride and will meet up with other state rides on their journey.
A back up vehicle for the ride was donated by Michael Adams from Golden West Holden while Steve from STS Auto Electrical loaned a two bike trailer.
