AFTER suffering their heaviest loss of the season last week the Dubbo Kangaroos are determined to bounce back against the Parkes Boars tomorrow at No. 1 Oval.
The Roos fell to only their second loss of 2014 when they were handed an emphatic 48-3 defeat at the hands of Orange Emus last Saturday but will be boosted this weekend by the return of representative players Peter Nau and Scott Burgess.
Nau, Burgess and Filisione Pauta all missed the trip to Orange due to NSW Country Cockatoos duties and Pauta looks certain to sit out this weekend as he recovers from a hamstring injury.
Anthony Golding is also set for a spell on the sidelines after suffering a knee injury last weekend while Shaun McHugh is still out and Max Ma'a Nelson and James Mata are both under injury clouds.
With the Roos unable to even score a try last week coach Paul Hennock is hoping the return the NSW Country players will help his side overcome their injury troubles and dip in form.
"I'd hope so, with Burgess back at 10 it should give us a bit more direction," he said.
"We need better communication too and more work at the breakdown."
With communication and direction a real issue last week Hennock denied the need for teenage scrumhalf Brad Collins to do more work, admitting some of the more experienced guys needed to help out and lift their work rate.
Collins has filled in at number 9 for the majority of the season with Wade Richardson battling a calf injury and the coach admitted he was pleased with the youngster's improvements in 2014.
"Expecting a bit more from some of the older blokes but Brad has been progressing really well and there's no guarantee Wade will be straight back in," he said.
"I've been giving Brad one or two little things to work on each week and sometimes it's harder for younger guys to order the team around but that's part of the job."
Tomorrow the Roos take on a Parkes Boars side which has failed to get close to the highs they reached in 2014.
After making the final last season the Boars now sit second last on the Blowes Clothing Cup ladder, having won only twice this year.
But with Mudgee recording their first win of the season last week Hennock said the competition can throw up plenty of surprises.
"We saw with Mudgee last week, it does happen and last time we played they really pushed us in the first half and certainly made life difficult for us," he said.
Ma'a Nelson and Mata have both been named despite their injury concerns while Simon Hergarty remains at number 8 in McHugh's absence.
First grade kicks off at 3.15pm tomorrow.
