Dubbo prices are consistently high compared to other centres.
But, there is never a clear, acceptable explanation.
Nor does anyone make even the slightest move to help local motorists or the huge number of drive tourists that help boost the local economy.
On Wednesday, the average daily petrol price in Dubbo was 155.9 cents a litre for unleaded.
In Sydney it was selling for 146.5 cents a litre and petrol stations there would still have been making a profit
That is a difference of 9.4 cents a litre.
Sydney is distant but surely the cost of getting petrol to Dubbo doesn’t run to an extra 9.4 cents for every litre.
So why do Dubbo and other centres pay so much more?
Perhaps fuel is delivered in gold-plated tankers.
The NRMA says prices are lower in centres with more petrol stations and therefore greater competition.
In the past, it has called for a government inquiry into oil industry competition.
The University of New England, which studied regional prices, said only strong measures by the NSW government to monitor and control the issue would provide a solution.
An official inquiry is overdue.
Perhaps local MP Troy Grant could take the issue up and fight for an inquiry, government action and
ultimately lower prices in his electorate.
