8.23am: THE inaugural Nations of Origin rugby league competition was a huge success last year and it looks set to be even bigger and better this time around with almost twice the number of teams taking part. Part of the NAIDOC week celebrations, the event is designed to promote reconciliation within communities and engage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Aboriginal members in the PCYC through the game of rugby league.
The sporting events begin today with the futsal tournament in Orange before the rugby league starts at 8.30am tomorrow at the ovals around Caltex Park. Matches will run all day tomorrow and Thursday with the finals from 3pm.

THE Peppa Pig puppet show broke all the DRTCC records in DUBBO yesterday with a full house trifecta of the fastest selling show. DRTCC hosted three full house performances of Peppa Pig Live! Treasure Hunt, totaling over 1400 attendees.
ABORIGINAL and Torres Strait Islander men and women who have served in the Australian defence force are being honoured at this years NAIDOC week. The theme of the 2014 NAIDOC week, which began yesterday, is Serving Country: Centenary and Beyond. The week is used to highlight and recognise the role Aboriginal people have played in shaping Australian identity and reflect on their sacrifice.
DUBBO Fire and Rescue NSW station officer Mick Medlin believes common sense is the underlying factor standing between residents and heating safety in their homes. Mr Medlin is encouraging Dubbo residents to be extra cautious to ensure their homes remain safe during the winter season.
Plans to establish a multibillion-dollar industry via the Solar Energy eXchange Initiative (SEXI) was voted down by the federal government last week. SEXI plans for NSW inland locations to provide solar electricity, day and night, to Sydney and Melbourne. Twenty-three of the inland councils, covering two-thirds of NSW, were in favour of the proposal and a similar motion was passed by the NSW Upper House last year.
