THE weather was far from perfect at Dubbo Golf Course but Western School Sport Association's Shane Groen said that didn't affect the quality of play during the NSW All Schools Championships.

Low temperatures, rain and strong winds greeted players from across the state when they arrived at Dubbo Golf Club
"It was really good, especially considering the weather. It was really blowing hard on Tuesday," he said.
"Wednesday wasn't much better but the boy who won the scratch division, Will Barnett, hit a +1 over on Tuesday and then a -2 on Wednesday."
Barnett took out the individual honours in the boys' division while Luke Ferrier won the net score section.
Amy Chu from the winning Sydney South West side also picked up the girls' 36 hole prize while Piper Prinze was the net winner.
The boys from Sydney North won the competition and Groen said, despite the weather, it was still a tournament played at a high standard, with players from the central west also impressing.
"A couple of boys with the higher handicaps struggled a bit but we expected that with the conditions," he said, before speaking about the central west players.
"The boys didn't go too badly.
"They played close to their handicap so that was really good while Laura Cummings from Cowra shot a decent score on the first day, a 79 so that was not bad."
Groen also congratulated Dubbo Golf Club on playing host to the event on such short notice, with original host club, Sydney South West, unable to fulfil their duties due to course renovations.
"We hosted it in 2011 and considering we did such a good job then they didn't hesitate to give it to us again and with our 27 holes we didn't have to turn our members away," he said.
"The members were great. They love seeing young kids out there with such a high standard of play."
