The interactive program, held at the Dubbo College Senior Campus, was attended by students from a range of local high schools with the aim of preparing the students for the Higher School Certificate.
Science Communicator in the School of Biological Design, Cecily Oakley said the workshops are built around the year 12 HSC biology and physics programs.
"Class is quite theoretical, but people have different learning styles. Kickstart provides a tactile learning experience which is a quite powerful way for them to learn," Dr Oakley said.
"It provides a hands-on experience the students are not necessarily able to do in their own school," she said.
The workshops allow the students to have access to experiences and equipment from Sydney University, such as lizard embryos, that are inaccessible in regional areas.
Dr Oakley said the topics the students learnt about included brain and eyeball dissection, animal senses, the evidence for evolution and the blueprint of life.
Overall, she said it had been a really rewarding experience to be able to interact with the students, and a fun trip for all the University representatives.
