Acting on intelligence, centre staff and a specialist K9 officer from the State Operation Group (SOG) conducted the targeted search in a minimum-security accommodation area on Saturday.
They turned up several mobile phones and accessories that were stashed in the wall cavity of the unused storeroom.
Two inmates suspected of being involved were moved to the maximum security area while investigations continue.
Corrective Services NSW Commissioner Peter Severin praised the work of the team who had seized the contraband.
He said the ongoing crackdown on smuggling contraband into the state's prison meant a high likelihood of being caught.
"Corrective Services NSW has a major continuing effort to stop contraband coming in to correctional centres," he said.
"This includes tens of thousands of inmate and cell searches that have been conducted so far this year by the SOG.
"This is in addition to the numerous searches all centres make themselves.
"With ongoing, intelligence-driven, targeted searches taking place at Wellington and other centres, inmates run an exceptionally high risk of getting caught and charged.
"In fact, their actions threaten the safety and security of our centres, staff and other inmates.
"That's why we'll continue to show absolutely no tolerance."
