Love of the land is written all over Dubbo Showgirl contestant Elyse Burton.
By day she’s an administrator of stud cattle and sheep sales throughout NSW for Elders.
Away from work the 22-year-old raises cattle of her own on a Ballimore property.
By the time she was five, Ms Burton was parading livestock and following in the footsteps of her father and grandfather.
“Love of the land runs in our blood,” she said.
“I can’t imagine doing anything else.”
Born and raised in Dubbo, Ms Burton attended Tamworth’s Calrossy Anglican School in years 10,11 and 12 in order to take advantage of its “good agricultural program”.
Since finishing school she has earned multiple certificates, equipping her for agribusiness.
Much has been achieved already by the daughter of Garry and Ruthanne Burton, but ambitions to run successful livestock and cropping enterprises while furthering her career in livestock administration are fuelled by the joy of going to work.
Dubbo has contributed aplenty to her “happy” life and the desire to win the showgirl competition.
“I would be honoured to represent a great city that has so much to offer both young and old people,” she said.
“I’d like to assist in the promotion of events held in Dubbo and promote the Dubbo Show, meet new people and help make a difference in the community.”
Ms Burton, who has bought a home in Ballimore, names her parents’ property on the Old Dubbo Road as among her favourite places in the city.
It is there that the seeds of her future were sown and nurtured along with a talent for patchwork quilting, inherited from her mother.
When Ms Burton’s boots aren’t treading through sale yards and paddocks, she is undertaking do-it-yourself projects, horse riding, water skiing and going to the gym.
The young woman’s approach to the high-profile Dubbo Showgirl competition is to “be myself”.
