News highlights from May 1983:
* Police from Walgett and Dubbo were sent to Coonamble to relieve local police in the wake of warnings that violence may erupt over the wide comb shearing dispute.
* Old Dubbo Gaol honoured its 500,000th visitor.
* Within the span of three week the small village of Lue (40km east of Mudgee) experienced drought, rain and snow, with around 15cm of snow blanketing the grounds.
* More than 30,000 people attended the three day Dubbo Show, but they didn't spend too much money with Show Secretary Eric Parker saying drought, rural recession and unemployment meant people didn't have money to spend on luxuries.
* NSW Premier Neville Wran announced he would stand aside while a Royal Commission investigates allegations int eh Humphreys affair.
