The railway will be raised and improvements to the crossing approach will take place in a joint project by John Holland Rail and Dubbo City Council.
"The extensive work includes excavating the rail and culverts, lifting the height of the rails, concreting and laying new asphalt on the approaches.
"The timing of this work has also brought forward plans for a new pedestrian crossing facility which will now be completed in 2014/2015 as per the draft Operational Plan and Budget currently on public exhibition," Dubbo City Council manager Works and Services Ian Bailey said.
The road will be closed to all traffic except local residents and businesses.
During this period a Traffic Management Plan including the use of directional signage, electronic message boards and barriers will be in place for motorists to take alternative routes.
Council apologises for any convenience and advises motorists to use alternative routes during this time.
