The council will provide $30,000 in financial support for seven events in 2014, including the Reining on the Plains horse riding event which concluded yesterday and the NSW Motocross State Championship round which will finish today.
Dubbo City Council's City Promotions and Events Supervisor, Lana Willetts said that both events held significant community appeal and would attract a large number of participants and spectators to Dubbo over the Easter long weekend.
"Reining on the Plains is the first reining event of its kind held in the region with some 400-600 spectators travelling from around NSW and Victoria to attend this year's event," she said.
"Dubbo Dirt Bikes will host round one of the NSW State Championship Motocross with 450 riders competing to be state champions, while a further 910 supporting crew and 350 spectators are expected to attend the event."
Ms Willetts said Dubbo City Council is pleased to offer continued support for Dubbo's events industry by providing $30,000 in financial support to seven events throughout 2014 as part of its Event Development and Support Fund, including two major community events to take place this Easter long weekend.
Ms Willetts said Reining on the Plains, the NSW State Championship Motocross and five other events all applied for and received support under the Event Development and Support Fund which has seen $60,000 distributed to events seeking $1001 or more in funding over a two year period.
Reining on the Plains was given $1500 while $3000 was given to the Motocross State Championships round.
A total of $10,000 will be given to organisers of the Dubbo Stampede Running Festival to ensure it continues to grow, the PCYC Nation of Origins will receive $5300, a Women Out West Conference and Expo got $6000 and $1200 will go to Dubbo Veteran Golfers and 'Week of Golf'.
"Funding has now closed for event organisers seeking $1001 or more through the Event Development and Support Fund and council is pleased our continued support for the Dubbo events industry is helping to deliver high calibre events for local residents and visitors," Ms Willetts said.
Throughout the 18-months until November 2013, Council's City Development and Communications Services Branch provided high-level assistance to 143 events and promoted 621 events on the City's 'what's on' events calendar on www.dubbo.com.au.
