Minister of Family and Community Services, Ms Pru Goward, was expected to visit in February and make an announcement about some of the city’s troubled areas.
She visited two years ago, with much media attention, and appointed a Ministerial Action Group (MAG) to tackle underlying social problems to support police efforts in cutting reducing crime.
Among other measures, problem areas were to be cleaned up and troublemakers dispersed.
Then things went quiet – and have stayed that way.
There are still problems in Apollo Estate and West Dubbo residents still can’t get parcel or mail deliveries (and other services) to their homes.
Ministers and governments are normally lightning fast to declare progress and success.
There have been some evictions by NSW Housing, but no details have been given.
What have Ms Goward and the MAG achieved?
Who can say?
There have been no announcements on plans, solutions, action taken or successes, if any.
The MAG was to work with Dubbo “partners” -- police, community organisations etc.
Some partners have run programs, but, they would have happened anyway, so the minister and MAG can’t really claim credit.
We are on another promise that Ms Goward will return to Dubbo for an announcement.
Really? When?
