Phillip Michael Gaydon pleaded guilty to charges of assaulting police, damaging property and contravening the restrictions of an apprehended violence order.
Dubbo Local Court heard Gaydon, 28, had previously been jailed for domestic violence.
The solicitor representing Gaydon said the offending had been stupid.
"He was intoxicated and regrets what happened," the solicitor said.
Magistrate Andrew Eckhold said alcohol was clearly problematic for Gaydon.
"The assault on police occurred in breach of bail," the magistrate said.
"You have done a lot of damage to your family unit."
Gaydon was ordered to perform community service and placed on a series of bonds and suspended jail sentences.
"You have some distance to go in your journey towards recovery," Magistrate Eckhold said.
"Alcohol may well be a life-long battle for you.
"Community service will give you an opportunity to make a contribution to the community."
