However the peak achievement of the distance education students went to Eden Beveridge who lives on a property near Ashford, 534 kilometres from Dubbo by road, who was ranked 5th in the state for Business Services Administration.
Miss Beveridge is a much credentialed student who also completed a Certificate three in Tourism and was awarded an outstanding achievement in English by Charles Sturt University campus here in Dubbo. She also received a Band 6 for Legal Studies and Senior Science.
Ms Mason said the students use a variety of methods to keep the lines of communication open between themselves and their teachers.
An online teaching website called Noodle is a popular method for students and teachers to work through units of study while Adobe Connect is used for video-conferencing.
Email and the telephone are two standard tools, sprinkled with face-to-face visits by teachers to the students' homes and students coming to Dubbo for camps.
Ms Mason said about 20 students from Ashford and district were part of the Dubbo Distance School of Education.
