Michelle Jane Marsh admitted stealing from Coles supermarket when she was brought before Dubbo Local Court.
Police facts tendered to the court said Marsh, 24, of Dubbo, approached the self-serve checkouts at 4.25pm on October 3.
Officers from the Orana Target Group saw Marsh scanning items and placing them in plastic bags.
Police said it was evident she was selecting items of minimal value and attempting to conceal more valuable groceries in the bottom of the trolley. Magistrate Andrew Eckhold was told Marsh paid for groceries worth $61.09 and left the store. When approached by police she was found to have not paid for goods worth $130.76.
The groceries included canola oil, chocolate, eggs, shampoo and conditioner, body wash, ice cream, chicken, apples, lollies, sliced meat, schnitzel, beef mince, washing powder, dog food, tomatoes and two USB flash drives.
The court received a positive report from the Magistrate's Early Referral Into Treatment (MERIT) program. MERIT provides an opportunity for defendants with substance abuse problems to work towards rehabilitation process. Magistrate Andrew Eckhold urged Marsh to continue working with MERIT officers.
The shoplifting charge was adjourned to January 15.
