Access to the hospital's public car park has been temporarily altered as trucks move on and off the redevelopment site.

Bulk excavation is reported to be "well under way" on the eastern side of the hospital campus, where construction of adjoining buildings will begin early next year.

Disruption to the redevelopment early works from the financial collapse of construction management contractor, National Buildplan Group, threatened to delay the start of the main works.

This week Health Infrastructure confirmed that replacement contractor, Fugen Constructions, had made "solid progress".

"Bulk excavation works, the last major component of the early works package, are well underway," its spokesperson said.

"These works involve the removal of approximately 10,000 cubic meters of fill which is being loaded into trucks and carted to an EPA (Environment Protection Authority) licensed tip.

"This activity is scheduled for completion in mid-December 2013."

Health Infrastructure reports of the completion of the reconstruction of the public car park, a component of the early works.

"The car park works are now complete and the car park is available for public use," the spokesperson said.

"During the bulk excavation period McGuinn Drive is temporally closed to the general public and only accessible by emergency service vehicles.

"Temporarily there is no access to the car park via McGuinn Drive.

"Temporary access to and from the car park, including disabled parking, is via Fitzhill Parade via Leonard St.

"It is advised that all visitors pay close attention to traffic signs and traffic controllers during this period."

Health Infrastructure called the early 2014 start to the main works "a great outcome for the Dubbo Hospital redevelopment".

The new buildings, scheduled to be operational by the third quarter of 2015, will house maternity and surgical services, and the clinical sterilisation department.

Health Infrastructure is yet to announce the successful tenderer for the main works.
