IT was a trifecta of celebrations for one lucky punter this Derby Day.
Jessica Smith celebrated her 26th birthday and third anniversary with partner Derek Buchanan yesterday.
A bonus for the Canadian was learning last week she had been granted permanent residency in Australia.
Ms Smith and Mr Buchanan met at Flemington during the 2010 Melbourne Cup, where Ms Smith had begun a working holiday and Mr Buchanan had gone on holiday from Sydney.
"I followed him to Sydney, and we eventually moved out here," Ms Smith said.
"It's so strange how things happen, but here we are," Mr Buchanan said.
The couple enjoyed Dubbo Derby Day surrounded by friends, and both were happy to have won on some of their bets.
